What Is the Difference Between FKM and FFKM O-Rings?

FKM (Fluorocarbon Rubber) and FFKM (Perfluoroelastomer) are both high-performance fluorinated elastomers, but they are designed for different levels of chemical and temperature resistance.

FKM O-rings provide good resistance to oils, fuels, hydrocarbons, many chemicals, and elevated temperatures. They are widely used in general industrial sealing, automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, and chemical applications.

FFKM O-rings provide a higher level of chemical and thermal resistance. Their highly fluorinated polymer structure provides excellent resistance to many aggressive chemicals, solvents, acids, bases, and demanding high-temperature environments.

FFKM is commonly selected for semiconductor equipment, vacuum systems, chemical processing, and other critical sealing applications where conventional FKM may not provide sufficient performance.

However, FFKM is not always necessary. The correct material should be selected according to the actual temperature, pressure, chemical media, vacuum conditions, plasma exposure, and service requirements.
